Richard McDermott
Richard has recently joined the dedicated and passionate team of teachers at the College. He has been teaching piano and second study instrument Violin , with immediate effect since gaining his B.Mus with Hons in 2003 from the University of Ulster. Richard received four years of intensive tutoring from the esteemed Dr Donald Cullington, majoring in Performance . He presented Mozart Piano Concerto no. 21, K.467 as a piano duet with Donald for his finals. Richard enjoyed engaging in the University orchestra seated next to the leader and singing solo parts with the choir. Within this period Richard recalls fond memories in working with a team at Share Music where all types of instruments were played colourfully within a therapeutic care environment.
Outside of college Richard continues to have lucrative and exciting work as a Society Pianist. He is maintaining residential status at prestigious hotels and enjoys the rewarding opportunities to perform at high end corporate and social events throughout the year. This leads him to experience playing to many renowned musicians, thespians and global dignatories! Richard has had past pupils going on to successfully achieve third level education and making a career with music. He continues to tutor piano rigorously to grade eight in other fields and is delighted to be part of the Ulster College of Music.
